التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ، وَالصَّلَوَاتُ، وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ. السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ. السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ. أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ.
Meaning and Translation:
1. Transliteration:
At-tahiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibat. As-salamu ‘alayka ayyuhan-nabiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. As-salamu ‘alayna wa ‘ala ‘ibadillahi-s-salihin. Ashhadu an la ilaha illa-llah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasuluh.
2. Translation:
- At-tahiyyatu lillahi: All compliments, prayers, and pure words are for Allah.
- Was-salawatu wat-tayyibat: Prayers and goodness belong to Allah.
- As-salamu ‘alayka ayyuhan-nabiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh: Peace be upon you, O Prophet, along with the mercy and blessings of Allah.
- As-salamu ‘alayna wa ‘ala ‘ibadillahi-s-salihin: Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah.
- Ashhadu an la ilaha illa-llah: I bear witness that there is no god except Allah.
- Wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasuluh: And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.
Significance:
The Tashahhud holds a central role in the Islamic prayer, as it is a declaration of faith and acknowledgment of Allah’s sovereignty and the Prophethood of Muhammad (PBUH). It also includes greetings of peace to the Prophet, ourselves, and all righteous servants of Allah.
