Surah Ad-Duha (Arabic: الضحى), which translates to “The Morning Brightness” or “The Morning Light,” is the 93rd chapter of the Qur’an, consisting of 11 verses. Translation and Meaning of Ad-Duha

  1. Verse 1:
    وَالضُّحَىٰ
    Translation: By the morning brightness.

  2. Verse 2:
    وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا سَجَىٰ
    Translation: And [by] the night when it covers with darkness.

    • Meaning: The night is mentioned to contrast with the day, emphasizing the cycle of day and night. It represents periods of hardship or silence, which will eventually give way to light and ease.
  3. Verse 3:
    مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلَىٰ
    Translation: Your Lord has not forsaken you, nor has He detested [you].

    • Meaning: Allah reassures the Prophet Muhammad that He has not abandoned or disliked him, despite a period when revelations paused.
  4. Verse 4:
    وَلَلْآخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ لَّكَ مِنَ الْأُولَىٰ
    Translation: And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life].

    • Meaning: This verse promises that the future—both in this life and the hereafter—will be better than past struggles.
  5. Verse 5:
    وَلَسَوْفَ يُعْطِيكَ رَبُّكَ فَتَرْضَىٰ
    Translation: And your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied.

  6. Verse 6:
    أَلَمْ يَجِدْكَ يَتِيمًا فَآوَىٰ
    Translation: Did He not find you an orphan and give [you] refuge?

    • Meaning: Allah reminds the Prophet of His past care, such as providing him support even when he was an orphan.
  7. Verse 7:
    وَوَجَدَكَ ضَالًّا فَهَدَىٰ
    Translation: And He found you lost and guided [you].

    • Meaning: Allah recalls how He guided the Prophet when he sought the truth, reassuring him of His continued guidance.
  8. Verse 8:
    وَوَجَدَكَ عَائِلًا فَأَغْنَىٰ
    Translation: And He found you poor and made [you] self-sufficient.

    • Meaning: Allah reminds the Prophet of how He enriched him with resources and support, providing for his needs.
  9. Verse 9:
    فَأَمَّا الْيَتِيمَ فَلَا تَقْهَرْ
    Translation: So as for the orphan, do not oppress [him].

    • Meaning: The Prophet is instructed to show compassion to orphans, recalling his own experience as one.
  10. Verse 10:
    وَأَمَّا السَّائِلَ فَلَا تَنْهَرْ
    Translation: And as for the petitioner, do not repel [him].

  11. Verse 11:
    وَأَمَّا بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ فَحَدِّثْ
    Translation: But as for the favor of your Lord, report [it].
